Einen PC neben den Fernseher stellen, beide miteinander verkabeln und fertig ist das Mediencenter: dieses hausgemachte “PCTV” geht vor allem für technikaffine Nutzer schon heute.

IPTV end user devices in the consumer market - wishes and realities
“My television is my Internet is my telephone is my email is my picture frame is my video chat is my photo album is my stamp collection is my bookshelf.” This is what one IPTV Audience Award participant wants from the television of the future. Put a PC next to the television, hook them together and there’s your media centre. For technical buffs such homemade “PCTVs” exist even today. But television as a do-it-all end user device remains a dream well worth the effort.
Kann das Fernsehprogrammheilen helfen? Das klingt nach Zaubershow und Hokuspokus, ist es aber nicht. Es gibt schon erste IPTV-Projekte, die ganz seriös Patienten unterstützen. Wir haben vorletzte Woche auf der Hannover-Messe eines kennen gelernt. Dort steht die allgemeine medizinische Betreuung für Senioren über den Fernseher im Mittelpunkt. Ein anderes Beispiel ist unser konzerneigenes T-City-Projekt in Friedrichshafen. Dieses konzentriert sich speziell auf Herzpatienten.

Take three times daily: Medicine from the TVCan a television program heal? According to government statistics, more than 10 million chronically ill people live in Germany. Both of the projects below prove that there are IPTV projects than can actually help patients and maybe relieve some of the pressure on the country´s health insurers.
Project 1: For the past six months, the “Motiva” T-City project in Friedrichshafen has connected chronic cardiac patients with their doctors. Patients use their television and a set-top box as well as electronic equipment such as scales and blood-pressure gauges. The equipment collects and transmits information about the patients´ health. Without the monitoring equipment, the patients would have to be cared for in hospital.Project 2: Silver Active Life is primarily for older people. The commercial research project was presented at the Hanover convention. Older people in this project keep in contact with their doctors through their TVs and can watch videos that address their symptoms. The exhibitor said that the technology could reduce the number of emergency responses in situations such as the recent heat wave in France. Interactive TV could show a picture of a big water glass to remind viewers to drink plenty of water. IPTV can do more than just entertain.

Alles um die Ecke, und die Qualität der Ausbeute stimmt auch. Das ist umso schöner, wenn man einen zeitintensiven Job hat. Etwa, das T-Home Entertain Hardware-Portfolio für 2009 zu schnüren. Insofern war das IPTV World Forum 2008 in London der richtige Ort, um gute Kontakte zu knüpfen oder aufzufrischen. Die Messe ist am 14. März zu Ende gegangen.
Noch ist Deutschland IPTV-Entwicklungsland. Doch das wird sich ändern. Gert von Manteuffel, Bereichsleiter IPTV der Deutschen Telekom ist optimistisch und ermutigte die anwesenden Entwickler “wir dürfen uns austoben”. Fernsehen 4.0 soll echtes interaktives Fernsehen werden. Nach schwarz/weiß, Farbe und ersten Schritten in Richtung IPTV wird jetzt Revolution eingeleitet. Warum auch nicht.
